Andrea Patroni Griffi Wins the 2026–2028 Italian-French Chair in European Constitutional Law
A testament to the project’s scientific quality, but also an opportunity to strengthen the University of Federico II’s presence in the international academic community
The Italian-French University (UIF/UFI) has bestowed a significant honor upon the University of Naples Federico II and its Department of Law. Professor Andrea Patroni Griffi has been selected as the winner of the 2026 call for applications for one of the Italian-French Chairs, with a project focused on the transformations of European constitutional law.
The Chair, funded by the Italian-French University for the 2026–2028 academic biennium, stems from a collaboration between Federico II andthe Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and will be titled “Les évolutions récentes du droit constitutionnel européen / The Most Recent Developments in European Constitutional Law.”
The project presented by Patroni Griffi was selected through a competitive process and involves collaboration with Professor David Capitant, full professor of Comparative Public Law at the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, who has been designated as the Chair’s French coordinator.
Over the next two years, the Chair will provide a structured framework for scientific and educational collaboration between Federico II and Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. Joint research and teaching activities, seminars, scientific initiatives, and academic exchanges dedicated to topics in European constitutionalism are planned.
The program of the Italian-French Chairs at the Italian-French University is, in fact, designed to support joint projects involving a high level of collaboration between Italian and French universities. Activities may include the reciprocal hosting of visiting professors, student mobility, and exchanges of doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers, as well as the organization of seminars, conferences, congresses, summer schools, and other scientific and cultural initiatives. Selected projects will be carried out over the course of two academic years.
The collaboration with Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne will allow for the comparison of different scientific perspectives and legal traditions, creating new opportunities for exchange among faculty, researchers, and students.
