Maestro Riccardo Muti to be awarded honorary degree in modern humanities

An honorary degree in Modern Literature will be conferred on Maestro Riccardo Muti by the Federico II University.

The ceremony will be held Wednesday, April 20, at 5:30 p.m. at the San Carlo Theater in Naples. The Rector of the Federico University, Guido Trombetti, will introduce the conferring ceremony together with the dean of the Faculty of Humanities of the Federico II, Antonio V. Nazzaro. Professor Renato Di Benedetto, of the University Center for Musical Culture, will deliver the academic Laudatio.

This will be followed by a Lectio magistralis by Maestro Riccardo Muti with the participation of the ''Luigi Cherubini'' Youth Orchestra.Muti will arrive in Naples after the resounding success of his trip to New York. The Maestro conducted just last Thursday a concert at the Lincoln Center in Manhattan, asking the audience not to applaud at the end of the performance, declaring, ''I would like to dedicate this performance to the victims of violence in the world today.''
