Modern Philology

In the Section of Modern Philology, where research is carried on European languages and literatures, four fundamental aspects and disciplinary fields are identified: a) studies on Romance, Italian and Germanic Philology which make up an inheritance of knowledge and methods to be conserved and developed in their connected ways; b) studies on Italian literary language and tradition, also in its relationship to the languages and literatures of other countries; c) studies on European and extra-European literatures in a Romance and Germanic context, taking into account their historical identity and their comparative vision; d) linguistic studies, synchronically speaking (theoretical and typologically descriptive), diachronic-comparative and didactic-acquisitional studies, and studies on linguistic history and Italian dialectology.
