New polymers for advanced structural and functional applications

Development of innovative polymers from selective organometallic catalysis. Synthesis, structure and mechanical characterization of polyolefins and other polymers from renewable sources, such as polyketones or polycarbonates. Nano-structured polymers for micro-electronics and photonics. Study of the crystal structure and morphology of polymers. Relationships among chemical structure, crystal structure and mechanical properties of polymers. Synthesis of new materials for applications in the field of photonics and organic and hybrid electronics: organic and organometallic chromophores and liquid-crystalline polymers for non-linear optics; chromophores and conjugated polymers for dye-sensitized solar cells, organic heterojunction cells and field-effect transistors. Crystallography and morphology of topotactic transitions in organic and organometallic crystals and in polymers; study of deformation-induced phase transformations.
