The research group carries out specific experimental activities employing structures and test benches developed in cooperation with Bridgestone TCE, located in the Mechanics and Energetics building of DII. The basic research and the activities performed in cooperation with international companies working in the automotive field mainly concern with the study and the analysis of the vehicles interaction with the road surface, with particular attention to automobiles (target of the research contracts with Ferrari F1, Ferrari GT and Porsche AG) and to racing motorcycles (Ducati Corse) dynamics. The theoretical studies carried out by the research group and the development of models able to understand the complex phenomena regarding interaction between vehicles and road can be supported, thanks to the TyreLab, by a facility realized and aimed to provide visco-elastic, dynamic and thermodynamic characterizations of tyres and of the surfaces interacting with it.
