The research Group was born to responds to the need of aggregating synergistically skills of technicians and researchers coming mainly from the sector ING-IND/14 in a team able to fulfill the needs of innovation and competitiveness of railway companies operating in the field of construction/maintenance of rolling stocks and railway infrastructure.
Specific tasks of the Group are mainly the development of new numerical and experimental methodologies for stress and damage analysis, structural integrity mechanical models, test and optimization of components and structures, design with innovative materials.
The RaMeG carried out researches into:

  • Design and development of composite/hybrid large structures for rail transport.
  • Crashworthy composite structures – cabins, vehicles bodies and internal components.
  • Design and test of shock absorber systems for railway applications.
  • Modelling and analysis of rail vehicles structures and components.
  • Rail life prediction modelling.
  • Continuous Welded Rail Thermal Buckling.
