The research activities are divided into three different areas:

Aerothermodynamics - the research group is currently engaged in the study of innovative re-entry capsules with variable geometry and hypersonic aircraft of new generation, in collaboration with CIRA, ASI, ESA and the aerospace district of Campania. They also conducted research aimed at the development of ultra refractory ceramic materials for wing leading edges and aero-propulsion applications, in collaboration with CNR-ISTEC and the Italian Air Force.

Microgravity - experiments are designed and built on board platforms including aircrafts in parabolic flights, sounding rockets, pressurized space laboratories, orbiting satellites. These activities are carried out in collaboration with the Italian (ASI) and European (ESA) Space Agencies, with research centers and universities abroad. Research is focused on the scientific utilization of the International Space Station.

Space Propulsion - the research is focused on the study of hybrid propellant rocket motors, in collaboration with CIRA, and other Italian and European universities. At the military airport of Grazzanise (CE) is available a laboratory in association with the Air Force Academy, with a test facility able to investigate hybrid and monopropellant rockets.
