Air pollution monitoring and modelling

Air pollution monitoring is performed in urban areas and in industrial areas through sampling followed by lab analysis, direct analysis or using passive samplers. A mobile lab with several analytic instruments (PM10, particle number, NOx, CO, SOx) is also available for more complex monitoring campaigns.

Meteorological and turbulence parameters are measured with an ultrasonic anemometer.

Modelling is performed with Gaussian and CFD models. Main applications are: urban areas, single streets, and industrial areas. Modelling can also be performed on regional scale using chain of models including metereological processors, emission processors and atmospheric photochemical processors.

Main objectives of research activities are: air quality assessment, individuation  of sources and causes determining the pollution levels measured.
