Water resources management and bio-system engineering

The Division has research activities aimed at applying engineering technologies in agriculture. Its research activities are also focused upon the problems related to the use of resources in natural ecosystems and man-made environments. Main research areas are reported below:

  • hydraulic engineering and irrigation;
  • remote sensing for the management of water and irrigation systems;
  • soil hydrology and water movement in the soil-plant-atmosphere system;
  • solute and pollutants transport in the soil-management of animal wastewater;
  • agricultural mechanization – machinery and plans for food-manufacturing and beverage industry– energy supply
  • application of micro and nano technologies in the food industry;
  • definition of criteria and models for the design of farm, agroindustrial and livestock buildings;
  • planning, valorization and preservation of agro-forestry environments;
  • agricultural use of marginal-quality water
  • applied modelling and methods for numerical optimization.
