Medicine and Surgery

Course description

The Medicine and Surgery course aims at providing scientific, theoretical and practical skills, along with the professional and decisional autonomy necessary for the medical profession.

One of the most qualifying features of the Curriculum is the complete integration of the contents of both basic and clinical sciences. This is achieved through a multidisciplinary approach and an early involvement of students in patient management, including moral and ethical aspects as well as legal responsibilities that form the basis of the medical profession.

The mission is to provide students with the knowledge and tools especially focused towards a biomedical, psychological, social and territorial perspective of the medical profession. The classes are characterized by a multidisciplinary and integrated approach in disease prevention and health promotion. The training is primarily patient-oriented involving community-based health centers and hospitals, providing a varied and rich clinical experience for our students. The program is founded on vertical and horizontal integration of the curriculum across all years, bringing clinical cases and challenges into the early years. Our classes seek the integration of clinical and basic sciences in order to develop new models for clinical reasoning and engage students in an in-depth and long-term scholarly experience.

These aims are achieved through formal lessons, seminars, small-group tutored activities in research labs and clinical wards, integrated by other tutored activities chosen by students in order to deepen specific topics.
